DPW #013: How to Create a Coloring Page
Choose one of 5 options, and create them in 5 simple steps.
Welcome to the thirteenth edition of Digital Products Weekly.
Last week we looked at creating a Canva template.
The votes are in, this week we will look at creating a coloring page.
You can sell these individually as printables, or compile them and sell them as part of a coloring book. Ideally, you do both!
Let’s get to it!

Coloring Page Recipe
Step 1 - Pick a topic.
This is an obvious step, but then again they are all obvious.
You still need to take the step.
You may already know what topic you want to explore, but if not, you can make coloring pages for pretty much anything.
It can even be made up of words or phrases that need to be colored.
Step 2 - Sketch it out.
Like most digital products I create, they all start with a quick sketch.
It doesn’t need to be perfect, or even very detailed, get it out of your mind and on paper to guide you through what comes next.
Step 3 - Create your design.
This step can be simple or complicated.
There are 5 different options you can choose from to create your designs.
Draw them by hand and scan them.
Draw them using digital tools like Procreate or Affinity Illustrator.
Use an online graphic design platform like Canva.
Use a specialized tool like BookBolt or TangentTemplates.
Use AI to create them.
Step 4 - Save your file.
You’ll want to save your file in either 8.5” x 11” or A4 format as a PDF and also a PNG or JPG to use for the sales page or mockups.
If you’re making a book, you’ll save it as one PDF that will become the manuscript.
Step 5 - List them for sale.
You can now use a platform like Gumroad, Kit, Lemonsqueezy, Pensight, Payhip, or most other e-commerce solutions.
Alternatively, you can use a marketplace like Etsy.
And if you want to sell them as a physical book, Amazon KDP is a great option.
