DPW #010: How to Create a Checklist
Checklists can be super simple, or really long, it's up to you.
Welcome to the tenth edition of Digital Products Weekly.
Last week we looked at creating a listicle book.
The votes are in, this week we will create a Checklist.
Creating a simple checklist is simple.
Creating a long checklist is also simple, but can take a bit more time.
The key isn’t how long the checklist is, but what it can help someone do.
Let’s get to it!

Step 1 - Choose your topic.
The very first thing is to pick which topic your checklist will cover.
It doesn’t need to be specific, but you need to have a general idea.
Step 2 - Pick what it will help people do.
This is where you want to get specific.
A checklist should help people get something done, ideally, something they need to do regularly and need help remembering all the steps.
Some examples:
Publishing a blog post.
Writing a book.
Closing a pool.
Cleaning a house.
Editing a video.
Planning a party.
Going on vacation.
Step 3 - Write down your list.
You can do this on paper or in your favorite note app.
Do through the process multiple times to see if you’re missing anything.
You can even ask AI to give you its checklist for whatever you’re doing to compare.
Step 4 - Create your checklist.
You have many different options when it comes to actually creating the checklist that you will sell or use as a lead magnet.
It can be as simple as a list in a Google Doc, but it’s even better if you make it look good. Using Canva can give you many more options. Notion can also be an option.
Step 5 - Offer your checklist.
You need to decide if you want to sell it or give it away for free.
If you want to sell it, consider using Etsy, it’s one of the top marketplaces for checklists.
You can also sell it or give it away for free on Gumroad, Kit, Lemonsqueezy, Pensight, Payhip, or most other e-commerce solutions. You can even just give it away on Substack via your welcome email, or through a paid subscription.
